Each level increases the speed of Transmitter, Starcruiser, Phoenix and Recycler by 10%.

Requirements

You need Engine research level 6. The Diffusion engine itself unlocks Recycler from level 4, Starcruiser from level 5, and Transmitter and Phoenix from level 8.

Phoenix fleets are very popular attackers. If that is how you attack, upgrade the Diffusion engine as consistently as Weapons technology, Shield technology and Defense systems.

Background

The process of diffusion enabled scientists to generate a compression level a thousand times higher than that of rocket engines. Diffusion engines are equipped with a chamber for this process of diffusion. During expansion in this chamber, an empty space is created which counteracts the pressure difference, thus thus allowing a great amount of energy to be built up - so strong that it can make large cruisers travel at high speeds. The control process for diffusion improves with each level: The higher the level, the better the diffusion engine will perform. The speed of the diffusion engine increases by 10% for each level.
