The most secret research in the universe: required for the Imperial starbase – and each level extends the disruption caused by its self-destruction.
Role
Black hole research requires Warp engine level 10 and Graviton technology level 10. From level 2 – with a Weapons factory at level 13 – you can build the Imperial starbase.
Self-destruction of the starbase
An Imperial starbase can be sent into a system and self-destruct there on arrival. The explosion disrupts the whole system: for a while, the Galaxy scanner can only detect colonization flights there (Galaxy scan). The disruption lasts 4 hours plus 1 hour per level of black hole research.
Background
In an endeavor to travel as close as possible to the speed of light, further development was conducted on the warp engine which resulted in the discovery of resonance research, also known as black hole research (BHR). Black hole research uses resonance to trigger the formation of black holes. Only the imperial starbase is able to produce enough energy to supply a BHR resonance generator, the strongest weapon in the world.
